What is caffeine?
Caffeine is a natural compound of plant origin. Caffeine is found in the leaves and fruits of various plants. Its source can be coffee, green tea leaves, cocoa beans, guarana fruit and others.
How does caffeine work in the body?
One of the characteristics of caffeine is that when consumed, it is quickly absorbed by the body. Indeed, its absorption occurs when it enters the stomach. From there, caffeine reaches the liver. We know that the liver is an extremely busy organ, which is involved in over 400 vital functions such as metabolic, digestive, excretory, thermoregulatory, hemolytic and others.
Caffeine is processed into more “elementary” compounds precisely when it reaches the liver. As a result, the newly reproduced compounds can in turn affect the work of various organs in our body. Through the blood, caffeine is quickly transported to the brain and has a stimulant-like effect on the central nervous system.
Main benefits for the body from taking caffeine
We know that caffeine has a strong invigorating effect, which we feel as a surge of energy immediately after intake. The onset of this effect can vary from 10 to 30 minutes, which depends on various other factors (how often you take caffeine; in what doses, etc.).
We also know that the long-term intake of coffee is associated with an unpleasant consequence – the staining of the teeth. If you want to avoid this process or coffee is not among your favorite drinks, then 10/ten Caffeine is just for you!
Stimulates brain activity and improves mood
First of all, caffeine has a strong blocking effect. It prevents the binding of adenosine in the brain. Adenosine is a specific neurotransmitter that builds up and makes us feel tired. Adenosine naturally binds to certain centers in our brain that slow down our brain activity. By “blocking” its synthesis, the feeling of tiredness and fatigue is reduced.
Additionally, caffeine has the ability to promote the production and release of glutamine (an amino acid) and dopamine (a neurotransmitter). In this way, it activates the flow of energy, stimulates brain activity and improves mood.
Helps burn fat
Caffeine affects the burning of glycogen. Glycogen is a specific carbohydrate that is a source of energy for the body. Very often it replaces nutrient deficiencies and supports the mental and physical work that our body does. To satisfy the body’s natural need for energy, our body burns glycogen. However, caffeine is involved in this isolated process in an interesting and unexpected way. Caffeine aids the burning of fat by using it for the conversion of energy, energy for which again caffeine is responsible.
Neutralizes constipation
Caffeine intake is an effective way to deal with constipation. Caffeine has the ability to activate the processes of secretion of gastric juices in the stomach. Acidic digestive fluid contains pepsinogen, mucus, alkaline juice, and hydrochloric acid. Caffeine increases the function of this compound in a specific way and thus helps to accelerate the breakdown of carbohydrates and proteins.
The laxative nature of caffeine is due to it being a source of chlorogenic acid, which is an ester (organic element) of caffeic acid. This especially contributes to increasing the level of gastric digestive juices. In this way, the speed and efficiency of the process of passing the stomach contents to the intestines is improved.
