What is BCAA?
There are 20 basic amino acids that are extremely necessary for many biochemical processes in the human body. Of these, 9 are the amino acids that are considered irreplaceable (essential) and cannot be synthesized independently in the body. BCAAs are one of the essential branched chain amino acids. BCAA is a combination of three amino acids with a branched molecular structure – leucine, isoleucine and valine.
Once in the bloodstream, BCAAs attach to muscle cells and fibers and serve as an already available source of energy. The three elements leucine, isoleucine and valine included in the group of BCAAs do not undergo hepatic metabolism. BCAAs are stored in muscle tissue, therefore their main biological role is to stimulate protein synthesis in muscles. Unlike other amino acids, branched chain amino acids are metabolized faster and this happens directly in the muscles. This explains their advantage, as they have the ability to support the quality regeneration of muscle cells after heavy training.
In this sense, BCAAs are amino acids with the important property of assisting protein synthesis for the growth of muscle mass and regeneration of muscle tissue. In addition to assisting protein synthesis, BCAAs reduce protein breakdown. BCAAs are considered the most important anabolic and anti-catabolic (those that prevent destructive (catabolic) processes in the body) essential amino acids.
More about BCAA (Leucine : Isoleucine : Valine) 2:1:1
There are several types of ratios between the essential elements in BCAA (Leucine : Isoleucine : Valine). In 10/Ten BCAAs are found in a ratio of 2:1:1.
Leucine is an essential branched chain amino acid and is the basis of BCAAs. Leucine is the strongest engine of proteins in anabolic processes. This means that leucine is responsible for an important task – protein synthesis. In addition, leucine is an element that is responsible for inhibiting catabolic processes, or those that break down muscle tissue, and at the same time enhances anabolic processes in the body.
Isoleucine is also an essential amino acid. Among its main qualities is participation in the formation of hemoglobin and the ability to regulate blood sugar levels. A combination of isoleucine, leucine and valine helps to increase physical endurance and supply the muscles with the necessary energy.
Valine is the third component of BCAA and is also an essential amino acid that the human body cannot produce. Valine plays an important role in maintaining nitrogen balance (nitrogen balance) in the body. This means that it has a balancing effect on the amount of proteins taken into the body and broken down during metabolism. In addition, valine stimulates muscle metabolism and supports tissue regeneration.
How does BCAA work?
