What is chamomile
Chamomile is an annual herb that blooms from May to August. Chamomile comes from the Asteraceae family, reaches a height of up to 50 cm, and its shape is strongly branched in the upper part. The plant is widespread in Europe and some places in North America, in Bulgaria chamomile grows in many places. Its valuable flowers are used for medicinal purposes.
Composition of chamomile
Chamomile is extremely rich in valuable substances. The flower baskets of the plant contain up to 2% essential oil. The color of the essential oil depends on the azulene content. Azulene is an unsaturated hydrocarbon with anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and sedative effects. Chamomile azulene is called hamazulene. The flowers of the plant also contain important flavonoid elements, plant sterols, bitter substances and fatty acids.
Part of its chemical composition are also luteolin and quercetin, which are powerful bioflavonoids (plant pigments) and coumarins – umbelliferone and herniarin.

It is believed that taking Chamomile in the form of a food supplement has a beneficial effect on digestive problems, flatulence (gas), nausea, heartburn and others.
Bloating, pain and general stomach discomfort is a common problem that usually hides serious digestive disorders. Digestive activity is associated with many smaller, step-by-step processes, one of which is the release of digestive acid, a liquid in the stomach (gastric juice). Chamomile extract is believed to have the property of positively assisting this process and supporting proper digestion.
Thanks to one of the most valuable chemical ingredients of chamomile – chamauzlen, the plant is an excellent antispasmodic with anti-inflammatory and gas expelling properties. The receptionof a dietary supplement of chamomile extract will help to cure some gastrointestinal diseases due to indigestion.
Strong immunostimulating effect
Chamomile extract gives positive indications in the fight against various disease-causing agents through its strong antiviral and immunostimulating effect. An important part of the composition of chamomile is quercetin. Quercetin is a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties. It successfully fights free radicals and reduces harmful changes in cells.
Chamomile also contains important biologically active components, the combination of which acts synergistically (strengthens the beneficial effect). In this way, it counteracts the decline of immunity and the entry of bacteria, which are the main engine for the development of viruses and infections.
Neutralizes the symptoms of Premenstrual Syndrome/ PMS
Premenstrual syndrome is a term associated with a combination of symptoms characterized by variety and persistence. The onset of PMS can be before and during a woman’s monthly cycle. The root cause of PMS is a complex hormonal change that occurs in a woman’s body in the two-week period between ovulation and menstruation. The cause of PMS is the change in hormonal ranges (estrogen and progestin). Among the unpleasant physical symptoms are weight gain, water retention, swelling of the abdomen, ankles and breasts, constipation and others.
Studies show that chamomile has the ability to balance estrogen production.
Chamomile has a strong sedative effect, which reduces discomfort and pain before and during menstruation. Thanks to the content of powerful bioflavonoids such as quercetin, chamomile has a strong antispasmodic effect.
Helps neutralize sleep problems
Sleep disorders summarize existing deviations from the physiological course of sleep, in which sleep is unsatisfactory and ineffective. The disorders are divided into two main types: Dysomnia and Parasomnia. Dyssomnia includes all sleep disorders or conditions in which the ability to fall asleep, the normal duration of sleep, and its quality are affected. A parasomnia is a disorder associated with movements and agitation during sleep caused by an internal psychological or neurological source.
Chamomile extract in the form of a food supplement will help to reduce these problems and will have a relaxing and calming effect on the body.
